FabFitFun Fall 2020 Box Review

Get ready for autumn with a new seasonal box from FabFitFun! From sleek black bags and cozy scarves to festive candles and hydrating skincare products, all of the amazing products in this season’s box certainly don’t disappoint.

I’ve been an official FabFitFun annual member since 2020 but have been one-off gifting these to my friends and family members since 2015. After being completely fascinated by the first boxes I sent my best friend and my mom (and fighting off the urge to subscribe year after year), I knew it was a matter of time before I was hooked for life.

Let’s take a peek at what’s inside this quarter’s box!

The FabFitFun Fall Box 2020 – Total Retail Value: $214 – $544 USD

First impression? The box design this season exudes such fall/autumn vibes! Last quarter’s summer box was bright and bold, whereas this season’s box is cozy and comforting. (Definitely can be reused for storage or as a future gift box!) Upon opening the box, I was delighted to find a large variety of large items in there and it was hard to choose where to start. That’s always a good thing. Among the many products was the FabFitFun magazine and some coupons enclosed.

FabFitFun will always send out a mini mag in each box. It usually details the items included and also provides background on some of the featured makers and designers. You’ll also find exclusive coupons and promo codes for a lot of the brands featured in Fall boxes. This month’s magazine included fall home decor tips, pumpkin spice recipes, and a variety of articles featuring female leaders!

The first five items below were handpicked by me. If you weren’t aware, one of the huge perks that a FabFitFun membership comes with is the ability to customize your box with stuff you actually want. So let’s dive in!

Customization #1:

Botkier New York Trigger Backpack – Retail Value $100.00

This was the first customization I was really excited about. I was in the market for a new mini backpack, since my current Steve Madden backpack is a bit larger than I’d like. Not only did the Botkier backpack catch my eye because of its compact size, but also the fact that it’s black mean that I could take it with me everywhere with literally any outfit. It’s a multifunctional backpack that will fit not only your phone, keys, camera, and water bottle, but also even a scarf or packable windbreaker!

I checked out the Botkier site to see if FFF was overstating the retail value of the backpack, but was pleasantly surprised to find a whole bunch of simple yet elegant bags ranging from $150-250 each. Botkier is the real deal and I’m so glad that such a high-quality product was offered to subscribers.

Customization #2:

Beyond Yoga Hidden Pocket Infinity Scarf – Retail Value $59.95

So, I don’t think I’ll be wearing a scarf to yoga anytime soon, but I chose this product because I thought it would be the perfect addition to my travel essentials for when I travel again. The hidden zipper pocket within the scarf is big enough for a phone, passport, lip balm, and and even a wallet. Not only will I be able to stay warm on flights, but I’ll be able to keep my belonging super close to me knowing they’re safe and sound. Because there’s a zipper, it’ll be nearly impossible for your belongings to spill out unless you forget to zip it up.

Customization #3:

Beauty Bakerie Proof is in the Puddin’ Palette – Retail Value: $38

Shimmery eyeshadows are not my thing whatsoever, so this palette caught my eye immediately. It features light and warm, matte colors among shimmery ones so you can easily transform your day look into a night one with just one palette. Plus the pudding theme is just too cute.

Customization #4:

Feel Beauty Renewed Pumpkin Walnut Facial Cleanser – Retail Value: $28

To be honest, I didn’t really need or want a new facial cleanser. I’ve been using Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple for almost a decade and have no reason to break up with it. However, the other products offered for this customization didn’t really speak to me either, despite them all being super highly-rated products (Masontops Glass Water Bottle, Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel, SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream, and frank body Coffee Scrub).

I will probably throw this facial cleanser into my travel bag so I force myself to make use of it! It advertises gentle exfoliation, which will be perfect for my skin after a long, dehydrating flight.

Customization #5:

Likwid Rx Stress Reliever 100% Natural Ayurvedic Hair Oil – Retail Value: $75

I’ll be the first to admit that I treat my hair like garbage. I get one haircut per year, usually use drugstore branded shampoos and conditioners, and even have a love-hate relationship with Head & Shoulders. One of the reasons why I subscribed to an annual FabFitFun membership was to step up my hair game! With that said, I was obviously stoked to be able to choose this hair oil as a customization!

I’ve never really given myself scalp massages but as of this fall, that’s all changed. I used the hair oil a few times this month and every time I get a whiff of that light floral scent, I immediately get transported to my luxe, self-care mode. To use this, massage into the scalp and shampoo it off after 1 hour or later. I’ve noticed significantly less post-shower frizz since using this!

Note: Select Members get to customize 3 products in their box. Annual members get to customize a total of 5 products in their box. The rest are curated by FabFitFun!

The below items were chosen for me by FabFitFun in this quarter’s box:

The Laundress New York Crease Release – Retail Value: $16

This product allows you to easily remove moderate wrinkles from clothing and fabrics with just a few sprays. Since I usually hang my wrinkle-prone clothes up, I don’t know how useful this will be in my everyday life. (Also, I could care less about how wrinkly my clothes are!) It’s certainly an innovative product for on-the-go business travelers, especially in situations where ironing isn’t an option. However, I wasn’t too excited about this one and may re-gift it to someone who needs a wrinkle-free life more than I do.

Hythe Tranquility Sleep Mist – Retail Value: $22

Oh yes, FabFitFun did it right by adding a pillow spray into my Fall Box! I love aromatherapy and that feeling of calmness you get when you step into a spa or a yoga/massage studio. To replicate this feeling, I’ve always used thisworks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray religiously. I recently ran out of my usual product, so I was beyond excited to get to try another brand out. Not only does this sleep mist smell amazing, but it also really allows me to fall asleep so much faster. It’s formulated with witch hazel, lavender oil, and rice water– ingredients that come together to promote soft skin, calmness, and purification.

The Beauty Crop Glow Milk in Blind Date – Retail Value: $19.50
It took me a while to figure out what this was,  but from the metallic packaging, I could tell this was going to be some sort of illuminator. Once I figured it out, I realized this was a bottle of liquid highlighter. The mini-mag described it like this: “Enriched with coconut this highlighter gives you a lit-from-within-glow.” Since I use highlighter only a handful of times per year, this was not a product I needed or wanted. Though the packaging is certainly cute. I’m definitely re-gifting this to someone who uses makeup more than I do.

Other items that FFF offered in the Fall 2020 Boxes:

Final Thoughts: FabFitFun Fall Box 2020

Retail Value of my Fall Box: $358
Subscription Box Expert Rating: 7/10

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with my FabFitFun Fall 2020 Box. I really liked 5 out of the 8 products I received. 4 of those I selected myself during the customization window, and 1 of them I was happy to get by surprise (the Hythe sleeping spray). My top 3 favorite items were the Beyond Yoga Infinity Scarf, the Botkier New York Trigger Backpack, and the Hythe Sleep Mist. I would have easily paid $50 for the three of these products alone.

I was actually hoping to see more home decor/kitchen items on the list of possible products. Since we’re all spending a bit more time indoors due to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s just less of a need for makeup and haircare products, in my opinion. I had seen ceramic bowls, cheese boards, and vases as part of previous boxes, so I’m hoping one of these upcoming quarterly boxes carries more of this stuff.

All in all, I think FabFitFun did a good job mixing in a variety of products in this quarter’s box, including accessories, skincare, haircare, beauty, and wellness products. I feel like they also took my personal profile survey seriously and sent me stuff based on how I actually answered the questions. A lot of the products I got were focused on skincare and wellness, which is spot compared to how I set up my personal profile.

Regarding the products that I didn’t really like, I think they’re still perfectly fine as re-gift items or stocking stuffers!

Now a few thoughts on value. Bought separately, the products in my FabFitFun box would likely total way more than $50. Even though I don’t think this box is worth the “retail value” of $358, I would have easily paid $100+ for the entire set of items I received.

But you know what I value more than anything? The ability to discover new brands and products that I might otherwise never try in my life. I admire the fact that FabFitFun mixes in new, independent brands among prestigious brands, because who doesn’t like supporting small businesses? So I’d say my Fall 2020 Box is completely worth the $49.99 I paid, plus the element of surprise in my life when I see that beautiful box on my doorstep? Priceless.

Considering subscribing to FabFitFun?

The annual fee might seem steep for 4 boxes throughout the year, but if you consider the fact that the average box contains $250+ worth of product, this is actually quite a steal. If you’re more frugal, minimalistic, and only buy what you know to be tried and true, then FabFitFun might not be for you. However, if you love trying new products and are open to discovering new beauty, lifestyle and wellness brands, FabFitFun is definitely the ideal subscription to get.

Here’s a little incentive for you to sign up for a box of your own:
